Team 2008-09: RED STAR BELGRADE (Serbia - Superleague) Career: Arkadia (Austria-A1, 2007-08) Yes he may be a staggering 2.09 in height but that won't detract from the fact that Bjelica is a shooter and small forward - small being a contreadcition in terms but his place is definitely on the wing. He could be the surprise package after being given a real opportunity and some huge responsibility by the experienced Svetislav Pesic in what has been a breakthrough season. Really lit it up in Eurocup with some superb outside shooting while also played a big role in the Serbian paly-offs as Red Star took favourites Partizan down to the wire. Averaged 7 points per game in the University Games this year and while this tournament might just come a little too quickly for him, he is now on the radar. Good with the ball in his hands and athletic, he can be a big player for Serbia in years to come. Quite whether Dusan Ivkovic sees the same promise and has the same trust as his fellow coaching legend Pesic remains to be seen. |
