After two years at Wichita State Mekel returned to Israel last year and signed a multi-year deal with powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv. On his first full season he was loaned, and started as a back up player but by the end of the year he was already one of the hottest names of Israeli basketball. He won the league's Player of the Month award for April and was one of the key reasons his team reached the Final Four. Mekel is a very good shooter and passer with a great feel for the game and a high basketball IQ. He's a die-hard winner who's never afraid to take the key shots on any stage, and in most cases he'll also make it.
