Club Team 2008-09: FLORIDA GATORS (USA-NCAA) Career: Lake Forrest High School (USA-High school, 2004-07), Florida Gators (USA-NCAA, 2007-09), Panathinaikos Athens (Greece-ESAKE, 2009-...)
Nicholas William Calathes, his full name, was born in Florida from Greek parents. He is one of the most decorated high school players in Florida basketball history, receiving the Gatorade Player of the Year award and being twice named Mr. Basketball for the state of Florida. "Nick", a moniker he shares with the legendary Nick Gallis, is a true point guard who continuously makes his teammates better, but he can play shooting guard or small forward also and possesses tremendous court vision. He produced great figures in Florida, averaging 17.2 points and 6.4 assists per game as a sophomore. In March, he declared himself for the draft but, unhappy with his 45th pick, he chose to sign a 3-year deal (for supposedly €2.1 million) with Panathinaikos. He received his Greek passport on June 30th. His foot speed is solid but his athleticism is a concern. |
