Elias Harris was facing several tough tasks when starting training camp with the national team. He spent four years developing his game in the German ProB third division with a tremendous 2008-09 season in which he averaged 20.9 points and 9.2 rebounds but had little experience on the international top level. To make his task even more challenging he had to adapt to a new position, since the lack of big bodies in his home club Speyer required him to play under the basket. Coach Bauermann has different plans. He wants the super athletic Harris to play on the wing and sometimes even at shooting guard. But Harris responded well and surprised everybody with several strong outings during preparation. He will be attending Gonzaga University next fall where he hopes to develop his game at the U.S. college level.
