The 29-year old center Petravicius used to make the competition for the spots on the final roster much tougher. But Petravicius finally made it to Beijing after he enjoyed a successful career in Europe over the last few years. In 2003-04, he led his Telindus club to the title in the FIBA Europe Cup final and was awarded the MVP trophy. And for the past two years he proved he can compete at the highest level, as he averaged 13.5 points and almost six rebounds per game with Lietuvos Rytas, helping them reach the 2008 Euroleague Top 16. After another good year with rytas, Marijonas opted for Valencia, in Liga ACB, rather than signing for ASVEL which offered him the same money and a new Euroleague experience.
