Mindaugas Lukauskis' career has always been overshadowed by the likes of Macijauskas, Kaukenas or Jasaitis. This pure product of Panevezys basketball school joined Lietuvos rytas in the summer of 2003. Since then, the numbers and influence of this very fundamentally sound player have improved season after season. So if it was a big surprise for most basketball observers that Lukauskis made the team for the 2005 EuroBasket (he was then averaging 2.7 points per game in ULEB Cup with rytas), Mindaugas didn't choke in Serbia. Coming into the 2008 Olympics, getting another shot with the national team seemed likely. Lukauskis had established himself as a legitimate Euroleague player, averaging 8.5 points per game with a Vilnius club who made it to the Top-16. At 30, he will leave Lietuvos rytas this summer and after being considered as a EuroCup first team member, Mindaugas won't lack opportunities... |
