Latvian basketball seems to have a tradition of scoring machines and Kristaps Janicenoks is the newest incarnation of that trend. He has been able to shoot from anywhere from a young age when Janicenoks was the second leading scorer at the U16 European Championship Men in 1999, averaging 23.5 points per game. After that his career improved step by step from Latvia's best clubs to legendary Italian club Fortitudo Bologna. Last season was exceptional for Janicenoks who became one of the top scorers in the Italia Lega Due (18.1 ppg). His role in the national team has grown year by year. In the Qualification Round for EuroBasket 2009 he was irreplaceable and Kristaps lucky last second shot against FYR of Macedonia provided a ticket to final tournament. |
