Vitols is a very tough defensive player and often uses his strong frame to disrupt opponents. He can be a dangerous shooter from behind the three-point line and has shown this ability not only in Latvia but in the ACB as well. For more than ten years Vitols has been a part of the Latvia national team though his statistics rarely reflect his impact on the floor. An excellent supporting player, he usually got on the court from the bench to make team game better. Last summer a serious injury during national team practice put him on ice for half a season. But in December he was back and became one of ASK Riga's team leaders.
