Five EuroBaskets in his career is not enough for Uvis Helmanis, he wants more. Since the middle of nineties this powerful inside player with excellent outside shooter has been one of the Latvian national team's leaders. His deadly aim from the three-point line is perfectly known around Europe. After six good years in Poland and Germany Helmanis went back to Latvia to play for BK Ventspils and ASK Riga. In the EuroBasket 2009 Qualifying Round he was a back up power forward with limited playing time but was played a crucial role in very important victory in Tallinn against Estonia. His skills and especially fighting spirit will be very important in EuroBasket.
